Hello my friends, today we are going to discuss a hot topic around the ranch here. \u00a0The day, while searching for the end of the internet, I ran across an interesting article comparing the use of toilet paper vs. Kleenex<\/a> for your nose debris. \u00a0Having sent two kids to college, I am forced to be a cheap bastard, so needless to say, this article received my undivided attention.\u00a0For our purposes, we will be using\u00a0Charmin Ultra Soft 2-Ply Mega Toilet Paper Rolls – 12 rolls (308 sheets per roll), $18.99 at Walmart, as the toilet paper. \u00a0We will be using\u00a0Kleenex Lotion Aloe & E 2-Ply Facial Tissue – 1 box \u00a0(120 sheets per box), $9.17 at Walmart, as the Kleenex product.<\/p>\n

The basic premise falls into two camps.<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Sheet by sheet savings. \u00a0i.e. 100 sheets of toilet paper vs. 100 sheets of Kleenex.<\/li>\n
  2. Square Inches of Kleenex vs. square inches of toilet paper. \u00a0i.e. \u00a08.2″ x 8.4″ vs. 3.92″ x 4″.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Before we get into today’s analysis, lets discuss the merits of each. \u00a0Unless you buy the more expensive, aloe infused Kleenex, your nose will turn red and become irritated. So, we also used the premium cushion for your caboose.<\/p>\n

    Sheet by sheet savings<\/strong>. \u00a0First, lets break down the cost of a roll of Charmin (18.99\/12=$1.58) vs. a box of Kleenex ($9.17). \u00a0So, let’s say your nose is running pretty good. \u00a0I think we use about 2 boxes a month in peak cold season. \u00a0I would say an average person will use 5 sheets of toilet paper (makes for easier math) per sneeze vs one sheet of Kleenex.\u00a0The math works out to four rolls of toilet paper, at a cost of ($1.58 * 4 = $6.32) and the two boxes of Kleenex will run you $18.34. \u00a0That is a substantial savings.<\/p>\n
