Vote party or conscience?

Your vote countsAs I’m sure you’ve realized by now, I like to banter.  I feel pretty strongly about third parties – they serve a purpose.  I feel a person shouldn’t vote for a party, they should vote for who they feel, personally, would do the best job in the office they are running for – no matter their party affiliation. As such I see the value in a third party candidate. Yesterday, in the Old Dominion, as across the nation – we voted.  In Virginia our senatorial race is close, so close that no one has been declared the clear winner.  The race started with three contenders:

    • The incumbent: Senator Warner (D) received 49.1%.
    • A former lobbyist: Ed Gillespie (R) received 48.4%.
    • The Libertarian: Robert Sarvis (L) received 2.4%.

As can be imagined from the percentages above, there is contention among the two front runners.  Sen Warner has declared victory, and Gillespie is awaiting the official results.  Unofficial results have Warner ahead of Gillespie by 16,000 votes. I heard Sarvis received near 50,000 votes, I wish he would have gotten more. I think if more people would vote their conscience; a third party might actually stand a chance; yay!

The Republicans won a bunch of seats in this election.  While I really, really hope our government can work together for the betterment of this land.  A part of me feels I’m going to be sadly disappointed.  Again.

Who did I vote for?  I forget; although I did write myself in for some local offices – some day I just may get myself elected.
