Wyndham Old Town Alexandria

My family stayed in Old Town Alexandria for a few days so we could tour DC. A few days weren’t long enough. You really need a day to absorb each museum + time for the national monuments.

We especially liked the Smithsonian Air & Space(at Dulles) and the Smithsonian American History Museums were the only the only Smithsonian’s we had time to visit; Holocaust Museum for its impact upon a person, and the National Archives are all must sees. We participated in a tour by USA Guided Tours for a night tour of the DC monuments. Our tour guide Andy was spectacular, and gave a fantastic narrative and included little known information to make a great tour. Plus; they picked us up from Wyndham.

Unit Features

We stayed in a 1BR handicapped unit. The unit was well sized and absorbed four adults with no problems. The kitchen was fully stocked with newer appliances. The unit was very well maintained. It was a lock-off of another unit, and there was a shared patio – which was kind of nice, we got to know our neighbors!

The Resort

Location, Location, Location. The resort is located a short walk from the metro stop. Metro is kind of pricey; but better than parking. From the metro stop you can get to anywhere within the DC area. Our car was parked the entire time we were there. The property was well maintained with pretty tight security after sunset, which was reassuring. Parking can be…sporty. The resort shares its parking lot with the Hilton next door.

The staff were extremely friendly and catered to our every (no matter how foolish) request. Fresh coffee was available most of the time along with small snacks. For on-site things to do (we didn’t do any activities onsite), they had a movie theater with popcorn, chess boards, pool table and a sitting lounge. There was a convenience “section” near the lobby desk, no so much a store.

With the resorts location in Old Town (which is a great place to visit in its own right) and the metro station next door; there is virtually nothing a person cannot get to, and an automobile is not necessarily required to enjoy one self. There is a grocery store a few blocks away.

Other Details: Free in room internet, laundry was onsite, as was a very small convenience “store.”

We did not encounter any problems while staying there.

I think this resort is better for couples rather than families, just based upon its location in Old Town. You can hope on and off the free trolley and peruse the old torpedo factory’s artwork. The waterfront in Old Town is just a cool place to hang out. Even though there are not a lot of amenities – its location cannot be beat; and that is why I score it so highly.
