Syria is like a bowl of oatmeal

Good morning boys and girls! The Syria “mess” is like a bowl of oatmeal that has been placed in the microwave. What starts as a nice clean bowl of oats, quickly in a short time of the microwave (think ‘limited’ TLAM strike) quickly expands and spills out of the container and all over the microwave; creating a big wet, gooey mess. This is not unlike Syria.
Have you heard what the President wants to do to Syria? He would like to launch cruise missiles against a sovereign nation. Now, besides the Constitutionality of such a strike against a sovereign nation that has not provoked, nor threatened the United States in any way; what interest do we have, as a nation in another countries civil war?

I propose to my readers that we do not have any business getting involved in their civil war. It is their war, let the countries that are being impacted pony up to take action, as those are the countries cheering us forward. Turkey has the areas largest military, and Isreal is very adept at strategic air strikes, let them handle this; they have skin in the game, we do not. All we have is an embarrassed president, with his “red line” comment that never made sense anyway. There is a good cartoon at, ironically, a place called “theoatmeal.com” that sums up my view pretty well. How many people have been killed up until this point?

A quick list of oatmeal we’ve thrown in the microwave:

Iran – We helped overthrew a legitimate government.
Iraq – We went in because of WMDs, hows that working out for us? The first Bush had it right, he containerized Iraq because he knew it was a mess.
Libya – What exactly was our strategic interest? And then Benghazi happened.
Egypt – We stayed out, and they still hate us. Probably the only smart decision we’ve made in the past few years.
Afghanistan – I still support our going in there; but I do not support us staying. We went in with a specific mission; and we took our eyes off of it, and look where it got us.

We’ve made enough bad food. To make a good bowl of oatmeal. Start with a nice clean bowl of oats, add some hot water, cover it and let it stew for awhile to absorb the heat and expand the oats, then stir in a bit of honey to make it taste good. That’s how you make a nice bowl of oatmeal, slowly with gentle heat.
What say you?
