Is your hard drive REALLY defragged?

My computer defrag – how embarrassing!

Good morning everyone!  Today’s post is all about keeping your digital house in order.

As you all know, I’m kind of a prick when it comes to keeping your computer clean and free of bugs.  As I commonly state, “Safe computing has a lot in common with safe sex, cleanliness and an ounce of prevention are priceless and saves a lot of future irritation.”

A friend of mine introduced me to a program called MyDefrag, which aids in defragging your computer.  It took him a bit to talk me into using it, as I was defragging my computer on a regular basis using the stock defrag utility that comes with Windows.  After a quick discussion and a bribe (does a cup of coffee count as a bribe?) we installed it on my computer.

Much to my chagrin (and his obvious pleasure) MyDefrag showed my computer was severely fragmented.  We let the program run overnight in the deepest and best scan available in the settings.  After meeting the next day, and once again being reminded of how right he was; we sat down to a cup of coffee and he explained to me why, even with regular defragmentation my computer was so fragmented.  I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t understand the mechanics of it; but who cares, my little black box runs smoother and more efficiently – and that’s all that really matters.

So what’s my current setup: I am running Avast! free anti-virus with MyDefrag on a weekly schedule.  I was running Ad-Aware; but it didn’t like being installed with Avast! and I think Avast! will do a better job.  What say you?  Am I off base or on track?

So have fun everyone; and remember, be safe out there and always use protection!
